            <head>Biographical information</head>
            <p>John J. Hunt was born in 1847 in Griffin, Georgia. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was active in the United Confederate Veterans of which he was a commander of the Georgia Division and responsible for organizing their reunion in Savannah, Georgia in 1931. Hunt also served as a judge in the Court of the Ordinary in Griffin, Georgia and was elected as Commissioner of Pensions in 1931. He died in 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia.</p>

            <head>Scope and content note</head>
            <p>This collection contains papers relating to John J. Hunt from 1929 to 1931. Included are correspondence, newspaper clippings, and a pamphlet regarding Hunt's participation in the United Confederate Veterans and his work to organize their reunion in Savannah, Georgia in 1931. The pamphlet was published by the Confederate Soldiers Home of Georgia in 1929 and is entitled, In Memory of the Heroes in Gray, 1861-1928 and includes a picture of Hunt. Also included is a brochure with a speech delivered by Hunt on 18 July 1930 during his campaign to be the Georgia Commissioner of Pensions.</p>
